Ok, let me start by saying I rate my self as "Guy that power users go to when they need an answer." I've rolled my own computers and done my own tweaking since 1994. So we can avoid the "Did you try turning the computer off" kinds of replies

I decided to give TweakVista a try because it was included with my ObjectDesktop Ultimate subscription. And I like looking over tweaking utilities. Even though I realize I can do this stuff myself with a bit of research.

So that is a great big preamble leading to my question(s). I used the Services feature of TV to turn of specific features, rather than use the great big "Make it faster" Buttons. However, I noticed that when I unchecked the "DHCP Client" Service, the service was still running and marked to start automatically in the Vista Admin services.msc tool.

Question: When does TV turn off services when you use the tool? Is this a bug? Is there some condition that keeps the service running even if I turn it off via TV?

Enquiring minds want the whole truth and...

When TweakVista turns off a service, it stops it and converts its start type to Manual (aka "demand start"; not Disabled). This occurs here when I uncheck the "DHCP client" checkbox in the Advanced tab of TweakVista. You do need to press F5 to refresh the list in Services to see it, if you had the window open before unchecking the service.

If you see no change, it is possible that some other service or application noticed that the DHCP client was turned off and re-enabled it. You can see whether or not the service was indeed stopped and started again in the Windows Logs/System section of Event Viewer, which can be found under Control Panel (Classic view)/Administrative Tools.
